Set up Career Brain on Claude — step by step

New to Claude or plugins? No problem. This walks you through every click. It takes about 15 minutes, and once it's done, your AI career coach remembers you forever.

What you need before you start
  • A paid Claude plan — Claude Pro or Max. Career Brain is a Claude plugin, and plugins need a paid plan. (You can upgrade inside Claude in a minute.)
  • The Claude desktop app — download it from claude.com/download and sign in.
  • Your old career material handy — resumes, your LinkedIn, any personal website or bio. Your coach will ask for these to learn your history (more on that in Step 6).
Desktop app or website — which do I use? Use the desktop app. Career Brain can only save your memory automatically when it runs in the desktop app with a folder on your computer. The website and phone app work too, but there you'd have to save updates by hand. For the smoothest experience, install the desktop app first.

Get the Claude desktop app and sign in

Download Claude from claude.com/download, install it like any app, and sign in with your ProMax account. If you don't have a paid plan yet, you can upgrade inside Claude.

Open Customize, then the Plugins tab

In the left sidebar of Claude, click Customize. Then choose the Plugins tab.

The Plugins tab is where you add and manage plugins.

Click Customize in the sidebar → open the Plugins tab (illustration).

Add the Career Brain catalog · one time

In the Plugins panel, click Add ▾ → Add marketplace → Add from a repository. Paste the Career Brain address, keep Sync automatically on, and click Sync.

Wait — what's a "marketplace"? It's just a catalog — the shelf that Career Brain sits on. Claude installs plugins from catalogs, so you point it at ours once. That's all this step is. You only ever do it one time.

Install Career Brain

Once it syncs, Career Brain by Growth Leaps appears under Personal. Click the ＋ on its card to install it.

Point it at your career folder

In Claude, start a Cowork task and point it at a folder — ideally the one where you already keep your resumes and cover letters (or a fresh empty folder called “Career Brain”). Your coach reads what's there and keeps your private Brain file right inside it.

Plain-English translation: a "Cowork task" is just a Claude session that can read and write files in a folder you choose. Think of the folder as your coach's notebook — and it can read the resumes already in there.

Say “set up my Career Brain”

Type “set up my Career Brain” and hit enter. Your coach starts a short interview to build your Brain.

Have your material ready Right at the start, the coach will ask for your old resumes, your LinkedIn, and any personal website or bio. Drop those files into your Career Brain folder or paste the links — it uses them to learn your history fast. (It won't take any claim at face value; it'll make you confirm each one so nothing indefensible ends up in your Brain.)

Use your coach — every day if you want

From now on, just talk to it. Try:

“coach me” “fix my resume” “rewrite my LinkedIn headline” “prep me for an interview”

Your Brain updates itself in the background, so every session builds on the last. No copy-paste, ever.

Stuck? Quick fixes

I don't see a “Plugins” tab
Plugins need a paid Claude plan (Pro or Max). If you're on the free plan, upgrade inside Claude — it takes a minute, and it's required for Career Brain to work.
My Brain isn't saving by itself
Automatic saving only happens in the Claude desktop app with a folder connected. If you're on the website or phone, ask the coach for a “Brain update” at the end and paste it into your file, or switch to the desktop app.
Do I have to understand code or GitHub?
No. Everything above is clicks and typing plain sentences to your coach. The catalog address in Step 3 is the only thing you copy-paste.
Is my career information private?
Yes. Your Brain is a file that lives in your own folder on your computer. It's yours — not stored in anyone else's database.

Start with “set up my Career Brain,” then come back any time with “fix my resume” or “prep me for an interview.”
